I can type pretty fast

You’d never know it by the likes of this blog, but I’m really a computer nerd. Not a faux-computer nerd like those bloggers who know how to change the themes of their Wordpress install, or Twitterers who just realized that bracket b close bracket can make a word appear bold. But rather, a pretty deep I-have-setup-TinyDNS-and-bind-before and think-about-scalability-issues-pretty-frequently type of nerd. Y’know, I’ve had many conversations regarding things with “slashes” in them, and I can touch type {}, (), and <>. And, the more I code PHP, the more I can hit $ with no problems. But, again, you’d never know by the looks of this blog. You’d think I was some theater dude who dabbles in the Ach Tee Em El.

I’m bringing this up because my peers - professional peers - all have blogs. I’ll wait while you pick yourself up off the ground from this shocking revelation. Anyway, looking through the blogs (or grok-ing them, if you wanna get geek) they’re all doing stuff that I’ve never done, like posting code snippets or posturing on software releases and other stuff like that. Instead, I fill my blog with my thoughts of remorse, having never said the phrase “snuck in a keg”. Dichotomy, it’s a pleasure to meet you.

See, I’d be okay with this huge difference in mindset if I was really bad at my day job. That’s the kicker - I’m really quite good at this computer thing. I’ve always been good at compartmentalizing my life (or, as some would say, repressing) but my failure to share stuff I know? Is that a byproduct of my innate disinterest in talking about computers (because seriously, blah) or because I don’t like admitting that part of my life exists?

Honestly, it’s a little bit of both. I don’t know how I’d take knowing there’s a part of me that’s even slightly disinteresting.
