Cover me!

I absolutely love cover songs. My Last.fm profile will attest to this (although, the rise in Vampire Weekend is notable and understandable). To me, a good cover song is like whip cream or cheddar cheese - it makes everything better. But, in that same vein, a bad cover song is also like whip cream or cheddar cheese - in the wrong contexts, it’s the worst thing ever. Trust me, I’ve tried to grout my bathroom with Merkt’s Cheddar Cheese - that was only the second time I’d ever left the shower feeling dirtier than when I went in. The first was a house that 6 guys shared in college; you do the e-coli math.

Anyway, through the magic of year end lists, I ran across this phenomenal blog called Cover Freak. Understandably, the song downloads are time delayed because, let’s face it, the best things in life are only good for a limited time. Things like free cover song downloads, sunrises, and warm apple pie (with whip cream - that’s called a “callback”). At any rate, check frequently and often, and enlighten your ears to artists interpretations that truly make them artists.
